Emily, great points and where would we be without our fabulous running buddies!?! And clubs are great - both for motivation and support. Happy running and enjoy getting back into it. Any big goal races or are you taking it as it comes?

I find the hardest thing to do is get motivated after a period off. The hurdle always seems so huge, then as soon as you're out and running you think "What was I fussing about?!" I'm getting back into it by agreeing to set days with a friend - its harder to say no if you're going to let someone else down. I have also found running clubs support - great for support.

In reply to <a href="https://runningonfullblog.com/6-tips-for-making-running-stick/#comment-43">Man</a>.

Thanks Man,
All fantastic comments.
And of course you highlight some really important points I forgot. First, get people around you to cheer you on- whether that's family or networks like run mummy run. I have my running club for this. Second, make it part of your routine - a great way to get on the shoes and out the door.
And it's great to make it a personal challenge. I'd like to do more Parkruns, a brilliant way of getting people into running, but I do want to beat previous times which hopefully won't be too difficult in a couple of months!
I think I'll be updating my advice over the coming weeks.
Keep on running!

Hi Sophie,

Thanks for the blog, very interesting points indeed.

How did I keep my running going? For me it is easy.

- I use this as part of my family lifestyle now. With two girls who are generally active, we go along to park run every week, either normal 5km or the Junior park run on Sundays.

- I have always been competitive with my sister and we meet for long runs either to run home or at weekends.

- Enter races so you have to train for them, that's my main keep running motto.

- Park run: a community with like minded people and they keep you going, most know me and the family so always get a cheer from the volunteers and organisers.

- Run mummy run group of like minded running mums on facebook with encouraging words and amazing stories. Not only that if you get a chance to go onto one of the main races -a large support group will be cheering you on at the main point of a race. Makes running very sociable and give you the feeling of I can do it.

-I always like to challenge myself and aim for new PBs in new age group and also keep myself fit so I can bring my girls the best I can and join them on active adventures.

Thank you for allowing me to think of reasons I keep up with the running.
