London – Day 38 of lockdown

Dulwich Park with heavy clouds

It’s strange how the days bounce around.

One day good. Another day, not so good. No real reason for these strange shifts of my moods in these strange times. I’ve given up trying to make sense of it as there’s a lot that doesn’t make much sense anymore.

Today has been a good day. Woke up early, not too early. Got some cleaning done. Sat down to do some work – commenting on a comms plan and a website; lined up some meetings; got some good stuff done. I can also get a decent amount done when I’m in a shitty mood. However, it’s always easier when life isn’t so grim.

It’s still a little fresh in London. There was sunshine, and then heavy clouds. I managed a walk with little bits of running. I almost got home before getting drenched in my last few minutes. I’m used to the vagaries of London weather. Walking in the rain, especially in my gym kit, doesn’t bother me. I’ve certainly had runs where the weather has been so grim I’ve had sleet bouncing off my eyes. A little rain is nothing.

And if anything, on grim days, social distancing is made much easier. Less having to jump into the road or into hedges to get the distance right. Yes, I take my social distancing seriously. And these days, I carry hand sanitiser wherever I go. I stocked up well before the panic commenced and still have enough to be able to avoid searching chemists. Most of the shops I go into don’t carry much, if any, stock of the stuff. I obviously careful about what I touch but I am known for patting a cat if it crosses my path and the cat is in the mood for a chat, or pat.

I come home and the news is much the same. There’s no timeframe yet for when lockdown might start to be relaxed, nor what it will look like. Another 674 deaths bring the total to 26,711. It looks like we’re about to go up the leaderboard on the Covid-19 tracker, a leaderboard noone wants to move up on. The figures now include registered deaths from care homes and at home. I’m not sure what the timelag currently is on reporting. And on it goes…

And I’m spending the end of my day on a zoom forum discussing all things data ethics in the time of Coronavirus. I’ll be writing on this further though a little more formally than I write here.

So that’s it for Day 38. Stay safe, stay well, and stay home!

  1. Hay I was wondering if the care home corona cases are divided into the elderly and homes for people with special needs who are young ? Is there any data? I have my beautiful son who will be 20 in May . He lives at a care home for the severely disabled and I am so terrified he will catch covid -19 x thanks again for ty our diary I look forward to it each day 😊

    1. Hi Sarah, I haven’t seen the care home data broken down in that way. And I do appreciate how terrifying this must be for you – the care team will be the folks to speak to. Big hugs. And thank you 🙂
