London – Day 67 of lockdown

The sunniest May in the UK since records began.

Monkeys in Delhi attack a lab worker. They escape with Covid-19 samples.

A Trump tweet was tagged as having violated Twitter rules. Riots in Minneapolis.

Cumming’s remains as the PM’s advisor despite making a 260 mile trip to Country Durham with his wife ill in the car, and him at high risk of having the virus. It wasn’t possible to make alternative childcare arrangements in London…

More and more people finding themselves retweeting Piers Morgan.

It is indeed strange times.

And things are slowly changing with a gradual easing of lockdown. From Monday in England, up to 6 people can meet, albeit outdoors while maintaining social distancing. Some schools will be reopening their doors with social distancing measures in place. Outdoor markets and car showrooms can reopen.

Ministers keep telling us to move on from the Cummings row.

Non-essential shops can open from 15 June.

People are still dying. A further 324 deaths yesterday bringing the total to 38,161.

It’s hard to know if, or perhaps when, we’ll see further spikes. And it’s hard to know what this might all look like if certain regions or cities or towns need to go in hard lockdown due to a major resurgence of the virus. And it will. It’s emerged today that only about half of those people who suspect they have the virus self-isolate.

This is as much to with the science as our own actions.

My days rumble. I keep busy. I always have things to do. Webinars, writing, walking, chats with friends and neighbours.

And tomorrow I meet my friend again. We’ll chat, we’ll gossip, we’ll moan about politics, we’ll laugh.

Here’s to further glorious weather.

So that’s it for Day 67. Stay safe, stay well, and stay home!

  1. I’m continuing to do what I’m doing now – meet or run with one friend at a distance, shop twice a week between us (we go to different shops rather than one of us potentially cross-infecting two shops) and not go out or see people over that. The half of people self-isolate statistic horrified me!
