My light entertainment of the day consisted of watching Prime Minister’s Questions. It was a cringeworthy performance from the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, in responding to direct questions from the Leader of the Opposition, Sir Keir Starmer. While amusing to watch, it is of course underlined by bad political decisions which have cost so many lives. I think the only response is to laugh with incredulity, or to cry. Perhaps a mixture of both.
I think I need to get out more!
And it’s the political positioning that is painful to watch – being told that government have done a fantastic job in ‘flattening the curve’, in bringing the numbers down. Well, the numbers are down particularly in London, but there are other places across the UK where rates of infection are still high. And the numbers continue to grow. A further 359 deaths, and highest figure for some time, bringing the total to 39,728.
As we know, these figures are not evenly distributed across the population. Older people, men, BAME communities, are worst hit.
I’ve stopped watching the bulk of the daily briefings. I’ll catch up every now and again on the rolling news feed. And I think I’m just tired of it.
Also not helped by the current horror show in the US, with the PM willing to say little. While I’m not a fan of the Australian PM, he has asked for an investigation into a police attack on an Australian news crew covering the riots. And protests are getting big in the UK.
Another busy day. I’ve been out a few times though the weather has turned a little murky – it is the UK after all. Here’s to a chill evening.
So that’s it for Day 72. Stay safe, stay well, and stay home!
