London – Day 82 of lockdown

day 82 of lockdown- goat with spiral horns eating grass

A good though tiring day. The pain in my back is much less, but it is exhausting. Just as well I can’t take the good painkillers otherwise I would have been unconscious for most of the day.

I did meet up with my friend at the Horniman Museum gardens for a stroll and to say hello to the alpacas and goats. The alpacas weren’t in the mood for a photo so I took one of the very funky goat instead. I had some minor rants about life on my part, we chatted, we had some laughs. Always a fabulous catch-up.

While I haven’t been following the news as such, I know from my Twitter feeds the sort of day it’s been. And yes, I’m going off topic.

Black Lives Matter protests have been replaced in central London with far-right protests. According to the far-right crowd, they’re there to protect various statues (while also using Nazi salutes and hurling abuse, bottles and a few fists thrown at the police). In Twitter land, some people are outraged that Blue Peter, a kid’s programme, is having a special programme to talk about racism. I haven’t yet seen them go after the Sesame Street clip discussing racism but I’m sure many have.

There’s a 5pm London curfew for the protests.

Protesters in support of Black Lives Matter called of their planned march due to concerns about clashes and violence.

On Covid-19 in the UK, a further 181 deaths bringing the total to 41,662. Yep, just today more people have died from Covid-19 than in Australia and New Zealand throughout the pandemic.

Hundreds of BAME health workers are still waiting for Covid-19 risk assessments.

So we’ve got riots, Brexit, and we’re in the middle of a global pandemic. Yep, and no weekend briefing because the viewing figures weren’t high enough.

Here’s to a chill evening and a glass of wine. Perhaps a wander in the woods tomorrow.

So that’s it for Day 82. Stay safe, stay well, and stay home!

  1. Nice goat – very cheering! I managed to do 10.3 miles today on a really muggy morning as my friend I run with quite a lot has decided she wants to try for a half-marathon distance soon. It was still good, if sticky, just to get the time together! And the social distancing on the streets was good-natured and competent, much better than it used to be, not sure why.

    1. Yep, the goat is very cool! And that’s brilliant. I might try running again in a few weeks once my back is fully sorted. Likely I’ll need to see my physio again for my knee – but will see how it goes.
