London – Day 74 of lockdown

A blue sky, the only 5 minutes of sunshine today

A lazy day today and I’m over the grumps of yesterday. I’m also over the carb munchies which I always get when I’m about to get a cold. And I managed to catch the 5 minutes of sunshine we had today. All is well. Except if I see too much news.

The reports coming out of the US are horrifying. At President Trump’s press conference today, he declares the US as pretty much over Covid-19, and pretty much over the protests about the murder of George Floyd. ‘It’s a great great day for George Floyd…’ You couldn’t make it up.

Trump expects the economy to be stronger than it’s ever been. And he’s going after China again referring to the virus as ‘the Chinese plague’…

And in the UK, another 357 deaths bringing the total number of deaths confirmed as Covid-19 related to 40,261. It also looks as though, in England, the rate of infection has risen, with a shift in range from 0.7 and 0.9 to 0.7 to 1.0 with some degree of regional variation.

At the moment, there are currently about 39,000 new cases of Covid-19 every week. This is a reduction down from 8,000 a day to 5,600 a day as compared to last week.

We’re second on the leaderboard for rates of infection across Europe, behind Sweden who didn’t impose a lockdown.

Non-essential shops are due to reopen in 10 days. They don’t have clear advice.

As the Prime Minister said in Parliament yesterday, we can be ‘proud’ of what we’ve achieved…

It’s exhausting. I want to be angry and rant, but that’s not for today, I don’t have the energy. I’m sure I will again some time soon.

Here’s to a somewhat soggy weekend. Though I’m very much hoping Sunday morning won’t be too grim as I’m meeting up with my friend again. Good times.

So that’s it for Day 74. Stay safe, stay well, and stay home!
