London – Day 86 of lockdown

It’s been a grumpy day. No good reason. I don’t think the weather has helped, though I was quite impressed with the thunder that went along with the torrential downpour earlier today. When these types of moods hit, I find a nap is a good solution. So a nap was had.

Also I don’t think watching Prime Minister’s Questions helped.

There was a lot of banter about the importance of getting kids back to school. Yes, it absolutely essential that kids go back to school when it’s safe to do so.  The Prime Minister seems to be laying the blame on Teachers’ Unions and those local authorities where schools have remained shut. Again I’m confused.

As I understand it, a lot of schools have remained closed due to advice from Directors of Public Health at the local level who have done the appropriate assessments….What’s needed is a clear plan, one that has not yet been seen.

Local Authorities themselves are really worried. It’s looking like, without a lot of additional financial support, many will go bust.

There’s a growing tension in England between central government, and local government who are responsible for things like public health and social care. It is at the local level where support is provided for instance to those who are shielding or otherwise considered vulnerable, and so much more.

A further 184 deaths bring the total to 42,153 across all care settings. Excess deaths far exceed this number so it’s likely the actual number is much higher.

But hey, at least Premier League starts again tonight. Perhaps more Buffy for me.

Here’s to an evening of being less grumpy.

So that’s it for Day 86. Stay safe, stay well, and stay home!
